Though they worked together for a year, Peterson struggled to bridge the distance between Www and herself. Over lunch, Peterson praised Wowââ¬â¢s efforts to broaden his professional skill set by attending weekend sales seminars and networking with colleagues to better understand the business. These efforts, she noted, surely contributed to his success in retaining his large, but only, client. We will write a custom essay sample on Cloud research or any similar topic only for you Order Now Peterson then reminded Www of her concerns. ââ¬Å"Fred, Iââ¬â¢d Like to remind you that your primary focus should be on new business. It seems as If you re spending too much time managing your one client, and thatââ¬â¢s not your job. He emphasized that the networking heed done in the Chinese community was about to pay off: he expected to sign three major new clients In the coming quarter. Www then stated that, because he was about to become the most successful sales executive In the Plano office, he needed his own sales assistant to answer his phone and perform administrative tasks. Peterson hoped her face didnââ¬â¢t register her dismay at Wowââ¬â¢s request. Only the most senior salespeople at Accountancy, some of whom Juggled more than 30 accounts, had their own sales assistants. The rest of Accountancyââ¬â¢s salespeople shared assistants. Gleason, a senior executive at a large national accounting firm, felt that many of the back-office accounting functions his firm provided to clients could be automated. Gleason envisioned, and Harriman built, a back-office accounting software product designed for what they felt was an undeserved market: small- and medium-sized businesses, especially those with ambitious growth targets. It was easy for businesses to adapt the Accountancy product as their needs changed or expanded, thanks to the modular design of the software and a comprehensive suite of add-on options. Gleason cultivated relationships with local investors and venture capitalists to gain exposure to possible clients. The founders believed that their competitive advantage would come not only from their superior software but also from their strong client relationships, a combination that companies making off-the-shelf accounting products or large accounting firms were unlikely to replicate. The founders also believed that a flat organizational structure and collegial culture would minimize office politics, strengthen employee morale, and heighten company performance. Soon their business model began to pay off. The product was ââ¬Å"stickyââ¬â¢: once businesses implemented the software (a one-time installation cost between $25,000 and $100,000 depending on the scope of desired services) and trained employees on its use, they were likely to renew their annual contracts. Accountants client renewal rate was 25% above the industry average, and most clients retained services for at least four years. In 2010, the firm earned nearly $100 million in revenues, and employed more than 400 employees in ten regional offices located in southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. That same year, however, the proliferation of inexpensive, off-the- hell accounting software, combined with a faltering economy, drove down revenues; three of its regions. The founders retired and the new CEO was determined to reignite the companyââ¬â¢s growth. He replaced the vice presidents of sales in a number of offices with the companyââ¬â¢s most enterprising young sales directors. Each was given aggressive growth targets. If the revenue goals were met or exceeded, the new leaders and their sales teams would receive a substantial bonus. Wendy Peterson was one of the promoted employees. She was named vice president of sales for Accountants Plano, Texas, office. After consultation with her superior, one of four regional senior vice presidents of sales, she agreed to grow the revenues of her underperforming office by 40% in two years. Accountancy Sales Organization Salespeople (generally referred to as sales executives) invested a significant amount of time getting to know clients and their businesses before submitting an initial proposal and turning the account over to a dedicated service team. Once a member of the sales team signed or renewed a client contract, day-to-day responsibility for product implementation and service transferred to an Accountancy account service am. Sales executives communicated with account service teams to keep abreast of implementation challenges and of potential add-on services that their clients might need. For new salespeople, the initial focus was outreach. Although some of the salespeople came from competitors, most came from sales or product management positions in other software or services Wendy Peterson | 913-560 companies. New salespeople were expected to mine and leverage their personal networks and to research, cold-call, and cultivate their own lists of local prospects. Unlike most of Accountants employees, who were salaried, annual compensation for sales employees (about 20% of the companyââ¬â¢s employees) included a base salary component (50% of annual compensation) and a commission component (50% of annual compensation). Escalating incentives existed for exceeding target revenue goals. If sales employees met or exceeded their annual financial targets and stated professional development goals, they were eligible for base salary increases. Although the salespeople mostly operated independently of each other, there were regional sales employee received a flat bonus payment ($7,000 in 2010). Total insemination ranged from $100,000 for first-year salespeople to $1 for Accountants most experienced sales managers. Background Peterson Joined Accountancy after graduating at the top of her Ivy League university class in 2000 with a degree in economics. A tireless worker with a curious mind, she excelled as a Junior manager on a series of account service teams and earned stellar reviews from both clients and colleagues. By age 28, Peterson was managing account service teams herself. Said Peterson: After six years working on and managing client engagements, I was ready for a change; sales seemed a challenging, and potentially curative, opportunity. I was nervous, though, about fitting in with the sales organization; after all, Iââ¬â¢d never worked in direct sales or closed new business. So I read books on varying sales strategies, attended weekend sales seminars, and requested to shadow two of the most successful sales directors (a small number of sales executives were promoted to the title of sales director to reflect their exceptional performance or tenure) in my office for the first month. Vive often been described as a ââ¬Å"doerâ⬠?if I see a chance to help, I donââ¬â¢t Just suggest an idea and wait for someone else to take charge. I like to do things myself. After Joining Accountants sales team it struck me that our senior sales staff benefited most from recurring revenue from our largest, longstanding customers. Their business was steady and required little effort. Junior-level sales executives like me, on the other hand, worked overtime to land new accounts and earned far less than experienced sales directors. As the pressure from management to drive new business increased, I spearheaded a volunteer mentoring program between Junior and senior sales professionals. The more experienced professionals imparted sales and client management wisdom to their Junior counterparts, in return for ââ¬Å"freeâ⬠assistance on large accounts. Camaraderie spiked and, I think, an unexpected benefit was that focusing on new business again invigorated senior members of the sales team. I was one of the few sales employees who brought in lots of new business to Accountancy in 2008 despite the global financial crisis; soon after I was promoted to manage the Plano sales organization. To me, the Plano team I inherited seemed disengaged; I believed that changing the culture?by making my team closer and the office more collegial?would boost productivity and revenues. Under my direction, our performance improved, and the team exceeded 2010 targets for new business by 15%. How to cite Cloud research, Essays

Macbeth And King James Essays - Characters In Macbeth,
Macbeth And King James (And the design of Macbeth for his approval.) The late 16th century was a time of massive change for England, as old traditions were being discarded and new concepts discovered; in science, commerce, religion, technology ? and perhaps most prominently, the arts. In 1603, Queen Elizabeth I, the major instigator of this change, died. James I, who until then had reigned Scotland for 36 years as James VI, succeeded the throne; combining the Scottish and English empires to form what was eventually called Great Britain. A sufferer of chronic illnesses all his life, James had been a king since he was 13 months old. His mother, Mary Queen of Scots, was beheaded in 1587, and his father, Lord Darnley, was killed by an explosion for which James held the Roman Catholic Church in contempt. James publicly despised the Catholics, and they did him, trying to assassinate him numerous times - the most famous of these being the Gun Powder Plot of 1605, led by Guy Fawkes. King James also held strong views about "The Divine Right of Kings". Although this concept had been founded long before, it became almost exclusive to James, who tenaciously believed he was God's chosen representative on earth, and that any act of treason or treachery against him was a mortal sin against God. This conformed to the foundation belief of society at that time, called "The Great Chain of Being". In this, the King was ranked just below God, and was followed by nobility, then commoners, slaves, animals and plants. Any disruption of this order was believed to cause chaos in the universe, bringing with it disease, darkness, and evil. A third aspect of James' life, which he explored mostly outside his kingship, was his passion for education. James was extremely fond of literature, and actually became a writer himself ? his major works focussing on kingship, the supernatural, and issues of the church. This personal passion immediately put William Shakespeare, London's most famous playwright at the time, in James' favour when he began his rule in England. It was not long before took Shakespeare's troop, "The Chamberlain's Men" under his wing, renaming them "The King's Men". An intellect himself, Shakespeare recognised the auspicious position he was in, and began to further this in his writing, by designing his plays to suit the new King. Macbeth was one such play. Performed just three years after James had commenced his reign in England, its popularity with the King was vital for Shakespeare's reputation, and hence, career. With this in mind, and recalling the piece I just performed, it would appear that Shakespeare's choice to base the play around the plotting and killing of a king was unwise, to say the least - especially when considering James' sensitivity to the issue, with the Gun Powder Plot occurring less than a year before. However there is evidence to suggest that despite this risky element, Shakespeare did form the play on James' approval. The first of such evidence is found in Duncan's remark in the first lines of Act One Scene Six: "This castle hath a pleasant seat. The air Nimbly and sweetly recommends itself Unto our gentle senses." The play is set in Scotland, homeland of the king, which is clearly referred to in a charming manner - an unusual occurrence in an English theatre, as tension between Scotland and England was fierce. Also, geographical names are used, such as Glamis and Cawdor, and one would assume that the King would have delighted in following the characters around the places he knew so well. The second factor that seems to have been designed for James is the character of Banquo. Shakespeare's main source of research for Macbeth was based on Holinshed's text of 1587. In this script, Banquo was actually an accomplice in Duncan's murder. However, Shakespeare altered Banquo's character to one of honesty, loyalty, and goodness. Research into this found that not only Banquo, but Duncan, Malcolm, Siward and Fleance ? all notably good characters in the play - were direct ancestors of the Stuart line of Royalty, the very same family from which James came. In fact, it is said that in the third apparition of Shakespeare's performance of Macbeth, the final mirror of Banquo's line of kings was designed to point directly at King James, so that in it he saw himself. Third is the topic of the supernatural, a prominent theme of the play. James was so interested in this subject he wrote a book about it, titled "Daemonologie", so

Idealisms to Blame essays
Idealisms to Blame essays To compare the ecosystems of New England before and after the colonists arrived is to compare two different and ecologically distant places. In the early 1600s New England was a seemingly untouched plethora of animals and plant life. The only inhabitants within this land were several Native American Tribes (Cronon pg. 5). Then the colonists arrived with their European ideals, diseases, and unquenchable thirst for profit. Some historians blame the entire systematic deterioration of the lands ecosystems on the colonists. While other historians dare to speculate that the Native Americans, in fact, contributed to the destruction as well. One thing remains invariable: the New England described in the 1600s is unrecognizable when compared to the one of the 1800s. The colonists defiantly had the largest footprint and gave the metaphoric snowball its push towards a means to an end. The colonists ideology and capitalist belligerence towards commodification forced the land and the Nati ves to drastically transform. Based upon passages from the historical monograph, Changes in the Land, William Cronon eludes that the European invasion was the chief agent of environmental change (Cronon pg. 161). Cronon writes that the colonists came to New England with certain expectations of wealth and prosperity that forced their surroundings to change. The abundance of Sea-Fish are almost beyond believing... how some have killed a hundred geese in a week, fifty ducks at a shot, forty teals at another (Cronon pg. 22-23). Cronon goes on to point out that the English caused the Natives to change from an early village system with hunting and gathering tendencies to one in which they settled in place with crops and domesticated animals. Cronon gives the colonists the blame they earned; the colonists were morally and fundamentally at fault for corrupting a virgin ground and people. The landscape of Ne...

Edward R. Murrow, Army-McCarthy hearings Research Paper - 1
Edward R. Murrow, Army-McCarthy hearings - Research Paper Example He constantly accused the federal government of being involved with the Communists. This is what initiated the army-McCarthy hearings in the first place. But in the end, his accusations and remarks were decreed as groundless. McCarthy blamed the army and the army blamed him and said that he was stating those remarks to please his senior David Schine and his friend, Roy Cohn (Caute). Many people in the government were intimidated by Senator McCarthy because of his popularity and his gift of gab. Despite his blames and accusations, people listened to him because he was an excellent orator. But it is unfortunate that he used his skills for the wrong purposes. This is why his sudden decline was his own fault, as was later proved by Edward Murrow. Another reason for McCarthyââ¬â¢s growing popularity was his relation with the Kennedy family. He was in their good books and while the Kennedy family was at its prime, McCarthy took unfair advantage of it. Moreover, the Kennedyââ¬â¢s were Catholics and so was McCarthy and this forged a stronger bond between the Kennedys and McCarthy. This is also why McCarthy gained infinite support when it came to targeting the Communist tribes. Many journalists and critics also claim that for McCarthy, being Communist was more of a personal issue and it was his fault that he amalgamated it with his profession(Caute). After these remarks began to surface, the Senate took the matter in its own hands. The Senate set up a committee to find the root of the problem. Normally, McCarthy was the one who governed these meetings but as this time he himself was being charged, Karl Mundt was elected as the leader of the committee. He was also a renowned Republican senator. At first the Senate was a little hesitant to make Mundt the head of committee because McCarthy was a lot stronger opponent and he made a rude opponent, but many members of the committee voted in favor of Mundt.

Shopping Malls in the UK Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Shopping Malls in the UK - Case Study Example The malls evolved in stages. In Mesopotamia city of Ur, by 1600 B.C someone decided to separate a street of shops from the town with doors which were closed at night. That is the first trace of the 'enclosed shopping promenade" evolved in more than a millennium. Then the ancient Greeks had their liking for the market and the market place was the center of debate and discussion. As the stoicism was named for the stop, it was a large roof structure; walled on three sides. Stoa, along with other purposes, was used for the marketplace. In the Roman Empire, Trajan decided to replace the crowded jumble of streets and small buildings with grand buildings with a formal plan. Aula Traiana was the two-story market with a vaulted roof. (Paquet, 2003 pp, 87) The early history of shopping mall dates back to 10th century A.D of Isfahan's Grand Bazar, largely covered and 10 kilometers covered Tehran's Grand Bazar has also a long history. Grand Bazaar of Istanbul which is still one of the largest co vered markets in the world with about 58 streets and almost 4000 shops were built in the 15th century. Saint Petersburg's Gostiny Dvor, the first purposely- built shopping mall was constructed in 1778, consisting of 100 shops with an area of 53,000 m. (New York Times. November 15, 1957). In 1774 the Oxford Covered Market was established in England and is still running. The Burlington Arcade was opened in 1819 in London. The United States owed the concept of shopping malls to The Arcade built in Rhode Islands in 1828. Shopping Malls in Britain: For the modern shopper, the shopping under one roof seems natural but for the medieval shopper, it was all strange. In medieval days many European countries were controlled by guilds that took care to see what was sold and made. It kept stores small and specialized. Mercers were the stores which sold grocery and fabric both and were the medieval shopping malls. Actually, until 1700 there were a few wealthy people in Britain who could afford to buy many goods. Even the rich paid 'cash on the barrel' because credit was the order of the day. Quakers leader George Fox complained about the absence of fixed prices in English stores.
